Matthew Bourne’s ‘Swan Lake’ is to hit TV screens, making its 3D debut on Sky 3D on June 26.

Matthew Bourne’s ‘Swan Lake’ is to hit TV screens later this month.

The iconic ballet – which debuted at London’s Sadlers Wells theatre in 1995 before going on to be the longest-running classical dance show in the West End and on New York’s Broadway – will make its 3D TV debut on Sky 3D on June 26.

Picking up more than 30 international theatre awards, the production is best-known for replacing the traditional female ballet dancers with an entirely male ensemble.

John Cassy, director of Sky 3D, said: “Matthew Bourne’s production has fast become one of the most iconic productions of this ballet and we’re delighted to be able to broadcast it in 3D.

“Performance is one of the most exciting genres for 3D – and the depth of feel that 3D is able to offer to dance productions on screen is truly thrilling. It sounds clichéd, but it really does feel as if you’re there.”

Meanwhile, ‘Swan Lake 3D’ is said to be a “visual spectacular” for ballet fans across the world.

Todd Austin, chief creative officer at Leopard Films, added: “This exciting event marks the first production from our new arts division and Leopard Films’ first 3D project.

“We are delighted to partner with Sky Arts and New Adventures to deliver a visually spectacular film for arts and ballet fans across the world.”

‘Swan Lake’ – filmed live at Sadler’s Wells – will also be shown in 2D on Sky Arts.
