PlayStation 3 will be ready for Blu-ray in 3D in October

Sony’s PlayStation 3 will finally be ready for 3D playback this fall, according to Sony CEO Howard Stringer who spoke at IFA 2010 in Berlin today.

The software upgrade with support for 3D Blu-ray discs has already been completed, so it is set to roll out at some unknown date in October. That’s not a long time to wait, especially given that the offerings of 3D movies out there are still rather limited. And I’m betting the number of consumers with 3D HDTVs and 3D glasses is still a small (but growing) pool as well.

But it could help boost sales with the holiday season just around the corner, along with the new PlayStation 3 Slim 160GB and 320GB bundles.
