Russia prepares for 3D launch

The Russian DTH platform NTV-Plus will launch a 3D channel in partnership with Panasonic on October 15.

The two parties have signed an agreement valid for one year, with the possibility of an extension up to March 2014, and will spend over $3 million (€2.34 million) in the first year on creating and developing the channel.

NTV-Plus has already established itself as a pioneer in 3D in Russia, having broadcast both the Champions League final and World Cup games in the format. Three years ago, it was also the first company to launch HD channels in Russia.

The Moscow-based cable operator Akado is also understood to be preparing to launch a 3D channel.
