The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences honored a host of individuals and companies at the Tech Emmys Wednesday night.
Howard Stringer presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Ivan Seidenberg, chairman of the board and CEO of Verizon. This award was in recognition of Seidenberg’s leadership that has helped establish Verizon as a premier network company with its FIOS service. Ivan spoke briefly about the success of FIOS that has an installed user base of 12,000,000 homes and projected growth of 3,000,000 homes this year.
Joe Flaherty presented awards to those who helped with the standardization of the ATSC Digital System. This was in honor of over nine years of work that went into creating this standard. Mark Richer, president of the ATSC commented, “The transition from analog to digital in February is not a major milestone for digital; it is a major milestone for analog. Death is a major milestone.”
Other notable awards went to numerous companies that helped in the development of the HDMI standard and High Definition Television.
