IMAX 3D movie ticket price to drop (China)

[People Daily]

The “super Chinese film screen,” which is 20 meters wide and 12 meters high and has high brightness, excellent surround sound effects and independent intellectual property rights, made its debut in Beijing recently.

It is expected that 30 film screens of such kind will enter the Chinese market in 2012.

However, since the IMAX film equipment was monopolized by foreign companies, China’s cinemas had to invest a lot in the preliminary period and did not have sufficient film resources. As a result, when the movie “Avatar” was shown in China in 2010, it was very hard for moviegoers to get the tickets since a ticket priced at 100 yuan was sold at a price of between 500 and 600 yuan by ticket scalpers.

A full set of IMAX huge-screen theaters costs about 10 million yuan, but the equipment made in China costs less than half of that. With the development of the domestic screen, the price of the expensive 3D movie tickets is expected to drop.
