We met with the Texas Instruments DLP folks in an LVCC meeting room to discuss the latest in 3D and Pico technologies.
First they showed us the new Mitsubishi LaserVue running Dolby 3D and Real D 3D. TI claims the laser technology provides similar brightness to other displays but a much better color purity. The results were impressive.
Then we saw an alternative to Real D on the same Mitsubishi. NVIDIA GeForce looked good as well, although it is clearly created (and priced) for consumers whereas Real D is more of a professional tool.
We were also treated to a demo of a new Samsung mobile phone with a DLP Pico Projector built in – very cool. We were told it will be marketed in Korea sometime this year. Samsung has also announced the Samsung MBP200, a compact and lightweight module that can connect to mobile phones and laptops and allows users to project content with up to a 50-inch viewing screen.
