NFB goes 3D
The National Film Board of Canada will unveil a new catalogue of stereoscopic 3D programming at Mipcom next month, including a 22-minute film about famed explorer Samuel de Champlain.
“The advancement of 3D technology enables the NFB to further explore exciting new ways of filmmaking and to bring this brand of Canadian innovation to new markets and audiences around the world,” said the NFB’s Deborah Drisdell.
The film board has recently been more active in 3D and online. Earlier this year, it added 3D and high-definition shorts and other films to its online library. In 2008, it made the C$1m Facing Champlain: A Word in Three Dimensions, as part of the celebrations that marked the 400th anniversary of Quebec City.
The Mipcom catalogue also includes 2003’s Falling in Love Again, an animated film set to the music of Marlene Dietrich, and the three-minute Moon Man, inspired by a song by Canuck singer Stompin’ Tom Connors.
