Sky is bringing one of the earth’s most remote regions to life in a new 3D TV project Galapagos 3D, a documentary about exploring the unique species and ecology of the remote Pacific islands.
Written and presented by Sir David Attenborough, Galapagos will be the veteran British natural history presenter’s fourth 3D project with Sky.
The TV film will broadcast in late 2012 and is the first film to be produced by Colossus Productions, Sky’s joint venture specialist 3D production outfit with U.K. 3D pioneerAnthony Geffen. Colossus was set up last year to develop original 3D programming for U.K. and the global TV market, including the small but fast-growing number of Sky 3D homes. Sky has identified the project as part of its commitment to increase its investment in U.K. originated content by 50 percent. …
“It will involve micro and macro filming on location and state-of-the art 3D visual effects which will peel away the Earth’s surface and shed light on the hidden forces that have built and shaped the islands.”
Since launching Sky 3D in October 2010 Sky has broken new ground across a range of genres, including natural history, live music, the arts, sport and movies. Highlights have included Flying Monsters 3D, music festivals, opera and ballet, Kylie Minogue live, Got to Dance, the 3D TV world premieres of Avatar, Alice in Wonderland and Toy Story as well as more than 150 live sports events.
