Dolby 3D Broadcast Innovations Highlighted at IBC 2010

Software Development Kit for 3D Broadcast Open Specification Now Available

At IBC 2010, Dolby Laboratories, Inc. is showcasing the latest developments to its open specification for broadcast 3D delivery, including a new software development kit (SDK) available free of charge at the Dolby booth. Demonstrations of the Axon G3D100 stereoscopic production and transmission module incorporating the open specification are also available.

Starting today, Dolby is making available an SDK for its broadcast 3D open specification. The SDK is designed to aid the implementation process while minimizing development work for broadcast encoder vendors and TV display manufacturers. The SDK includes test signals and self-test procedures to verify:

— Complementary sampling

— Correct filter application

— Correct frame-packing arrangement Supplemental Enhancement Information (SEI) generation for transmission over HDMI(TM)

IBC 2010 attendees are invited to visit the Dolby booth (Amsterdam RAI, Hall 2, stands A29x and B28) to request the SDK. The Dolby Open Specification for Frame-Compatible 3D Systems is available for download at www.dolby.com and is also included in the SDK.

Having worked closely with Axon (Amsterdam RAI, Hall 10, stands A21 and B21) throughout the development process, Dolby is also highlighting the implementation of the open specification on the Axon G3D100 stereoscopic production and transmission module that allows real-time, side-by-side formatting for interlaced and progressive 3D sources. The module is currently shipping as a part of Axon’s Synapse platform. This award-winning module has been used in various 3D transmissions in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
