EA Sports Announces First 3D Game

SSX: Deadly Descents returns in three-dimensions

EA has announced that SSX: Deadly Descents will be its first sports game to be released in 3D.

As the first barrage of official information finally makes it into the light of day though PSM3, including a new boss-like mode known as Survival, the franchise’s comeback will be compatible with what is swiftly becoming gaming’s favourite new toy.

The real intrigue now, however, comes from what this means for EA going forward. Although the publisher seemed set to implement it in Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit (though that seems unlikely now) and will be showcasing the extra-dimension in Crysis 2, SSX represents EA’s first in-house attempt and, arguably, backing of the technology. With Madden coming out for the Nintendo 3DS, should we expect FIFA, Madden on consoles and Tiger Woods to make a similar jump?

Considering EA’s relatively light history with 3D, SSX could mark a significant turnaround for the publisher.
