Hasbro Announces My3D, 3D Goggles For Your iPhone/iPod

[by Will Greenwald, PC Magazine]

No, this isn’t an April Fool’s joke. Hasbro really just announced the My3D, an iPhone/iPod Touch accessory that turns your iOS device into a set of 3D goggles.

The My3D is a plastic attachment to the iPhone or iPod Touch that separates the screen into two halves. Using special apps, many of which are free, users can then view 3D content through the two halves, which render a single stereoscopic image.

The My3D Viewer will retail for $34.99 when it goes on sale April 3 at Target, and will work with the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4th Generation, and iPod Touch 3rd Generation. Nine apps are already available through the iTunes Store, with several others planned.

The apps include my3D 360-degree Sharks, an underwater exploration game; my3D Teleport L.A., a virtual tour of famous spots in Los Angeles; my3D Sector 17, a space shooter game that will only remain free until May 1; and my3D Tunnel Pilot, a racing game. The viewer will also show 3D movie trailers and other 3D content, and more apps are planned for the future.

The My3D Viewer will come in blue/black and blue/white versions, and is currently exclusively available at Target.
