Hitachi’s Hand Gesture Recognition for the Connected Home

Hitachi is demonstrating a prototype for a hand gesture remote control HDTV that uses three gestures and a fairly intuitive user interface to control a variety of functions.  For demo purposes, the motion sensor is located on the wall just below the flat panel, but reps explain it will later be embedded into the TV.

The system can control an entire home entertainment system plus lights, temperature, and anything else connected to its network.  During the demo we saw it worked flawlessly – very impressive.

There’s a brief video demo on YouTube.
