Kia Motors and UbiVelox introduce Car Widgets

UbiVelox has partnered with Kia Motors to show off its prototype ‘Car Widgets’ system. The ‘widgets’ framework gives Kia owners the ability to connect to RSS news feeds, traffic and weather reports and social networking apps such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

The interface supports touch gesture commands, similar to what is found on the iPhone.  Users can swipe up and down through lists of ‘points of interest’, or navigate thought the latest news.  Kia owners will have access to the latest widgets via a widget store, creating opportunity for vehicle systems to keep up to date with the latest consumer electronic trends.

However, like many of these connected vehicle solutions, it seems to be without a critical component: How will the vehicle connect to the Net?  Kia has yet to announce any kind of pricing, availability or partnership with cell services providers.
