LG To Enter Tablet Market With 3D Android Device

(Philip Lelyveld comment: the Optimus Pad and Optimus 3D Phone are 2 separate products.)

The Apple iPad is set to face fresh competition this spring from South Korean electronics firm LG, who have officially announced its 3D tablet the Optimus Pad .

According to reports, the tablet PC will be one of the first to feature a 3D screen and 3D capable camera, allowing users to take pictures in 3D and view them on an 8.9-inch HD display.

However, Optimus Pad owners will require glasses to view the 3D effect, something which other 3D devices have managed to avoid.

Other great features of the Android 3.0 device include two rear-facing 5mp cameras for taking 3D photographs and recording full HD videos, a front-facing webcam for video calling, a NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor, 32GB of internal storage and 4G connectivity. Theres also a gyroscope, accelerometer and adaptive lighting.

The LG Optimus Pad will be officially unveiled at next weeks Mobile World Congress trading fair in Barcelona, and is scheduled to go on sale in the US this spring via T-Mobile USA, although theres now word yet on a UK release date.
