In a clarion call to the moribund 3D TV market, Hollywood legend James Cameron has predicted an explosive growth for 3D in broadcast over the next few years.
Talking to a packed presentation theatre at NAB 2012, along with business partner Vincent Pace, together the driving force of Cameron Page Group (CPG), Cameron said that there had “never been a moment in history like this before” and asserted that despite “some growing pains, uncertainties and naysayers” about the industry, 3D was well placed to begin reaping revenues. Indeed he claimed that 3D in broadcast was ahead of the evolutionary curve in broadcast when compared with the transition from SD to HD.
For Cameron, broadcasters need to realise that 3D should not be a standalone product that was somehow complementary or an add-on to 2D and admonished some broadcasters who he said had to date given 3D technology “red-headed stepchild camera positions”. …
