NEW DELHI — Nick India and leading animation player DQ Entertainment will co-finance and produce 2D high-definition animated series “Keymon Ache,” expected to be completed by mid-2011.

Nick India is part of joint venture Viacom18’s bouquet of channels that include Hindi entertainment outlet Colors, MTV India and VH1 India.

While figures were not given, a DQE spokesperson said the budget was “in line with our international coproductions.”

“Keymon Ache” is based on the everyday life of an ordinary 9-year old boy and his set of magical toy friends. The show has been developed by Nick with DQE handling production. While Nick will retain South Asia rights, DQE will have global rights to market the series.

Nick India has been enhancing its locally-produced content that included the channel’s acquisition last year of “Little Krishna” produced by Reliance Big Animation. The agreement with DQE will be Nick’s first local production.

“This project has the potential to extend beyond Indian TV audiences as we target multiple media and distribution platforms and engage with children globally,” DQE chairman and CEO Tapaas Chakravarti said.

“DQE have produced many shows for Nickelodeon International, like ‘Tak & the Power of Juju’ and ‘Penguins of Madagascar’ in the past. This is a unique partnership between a broadcaster and a production house; and together we hope to create endearing characters and a show that promises to capture the hearts of our young viewers,” Nick india senior VP and GM Nina Elavia Jaipuria added.

Among DQE’s other projects is high-end 3D series, “The Jungle Book,” which is currently in production as a 52-episode animated series and a 60-minute TV feature co-produced with TF1, Moonscoop France and ZDF Group, Germany, set for release this year.
