OSN launches 3D on demand (Mideast Satellite 3D VOD)

Orbit Showtime Network (OSN) has confirmed plans to run 3D content on its on demand service. The first movie to be shown will be the “underwater odyssey” Oceanworld 3D. The Middle East satcaster has already secured the rights to Bolt, Street Dance and Final Destination, while sports content is also planned.

In the summer rival platforms Etisalat and du secured the rights to 3D content from the football World Cup.

With the exception of the UK’s BSkyB, the majority of operators are placing 3D content on demand rather than on a linear channel. However, OSN says it may turn to linear at a later date, providing sufficient content is available.

A new HD receiver has also been announced. The twin-tuner device, dubbed the OSN Showbox HD DVR, features an eight-day programme guide and the by now standard DVR features.

12 new HD channels are being offered to OSN’s premium subscribers.
