Polish producer outlines 3D plans (4 channels)

[By Chris Dziadul]

The Polish company Astro is likely to spend between PLN20-30 million (€4.4-6.6 million) on establishing its first 3D channels, according to its owner Ryszard Krajewski.

Speaking to Wirtualne Media, he added that the cost is nevertheless likely to fall for any more channels in the format it subsequently launches.

Krajewski also said that Astro’s four channels – Next Man 3D, Next Lejdis 3D, Next Young 3D and Next Music HD – would be, following a trial period, distributed via fibre rather than satellite to around 20 cable operators.

Furthermore, he confirmed that Astro plans to launch what will be Poland’s first 24-hour current affairs, rather than news, channel.

Known as Next 24/7, it will make its debut this autumn.

Astro is a long-established Polish production company and began making 3D content over half a year ago in what is the world’s first-ever virtual 3D studio in Warsaw.

It launched its first four channels earlier this month.
