Samsung brings Broadcast TV to Phone

Samsung’s Moment, available from Sprint, receives live over-the-air digital TV signals.  The unit, which uses a proprietary DTV Mobile processor developed by Samsung, is billed as the first single-chip solution for the recently approved Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) Mobile Digital TV standard.

SamsungMoment_thumbThe ATSC Mobile Digital TV chip will allow Samsung Moment to receive live TV programming from local broadcast stations, including prime-time network programs, local news and sports and emergency alerts.

The Moment is Android-equipped and has a 3.2-inch AMOLED screen, slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a 3.2 megapixel camera.  It will deploy in a market trial with Sprint customers in the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore markets during the first quarter of 2010.
