SBS to launch daily 3D programming (The Netherlands)

SBS Broadcasting will launch its own 3D pilot channel in September 2010. The broadcaster will use the 3D VidiGo live production suite, to be shown at IBC 2010 by Hilversum based VidiGo.

“This is the first 3D channel in The Netherlands. We think it is important to start experimenting with 3D. SBS strongly believes in the power of 3D, but there is still much to learn. VidiGo Live allows us to responsibly start with 3D production,” said Josbert van Rooijen, Broadcast & IT Manager at SBS Broadcasting. The launch of a 3D channel by SBS was announced earlier this year.

According to VidiGo, “the introduction of Live 3D VidiGo will revolutionise the development of 3D. VidiGo Live 3D is based on the “side-by-side technique. VidiGo Live 3D is a complete production suite, including audio, graphics and play back. With this set-up is launching a 3D production truly plug and play.”

“Currently, a 3D production is still relatively expensive. In line with our vision, we wanted to make 3D accessible to any video producer. VidiGo able to simplify the AV output. We anticipate that 3D works by VidiGo Live 3D will be an explosion, as it is now affordable. Especially now, with the current uncertainties in the market, it is important that broadcasters could experiment with 3D directly without having to make major investments,” said Hans Krouwel, CEO VidiGo.
