How AIX Records Founder Mark Waldrep Embraced a New Kind of Stereo
AIX Media Group founder Mark Waldrep knew he wanted to work in 3D, directing and editing a series of seven “3D Music Albums” for Blu-ray Disc that would give the impression of a live performance in your home theater. What he didn’t know until he really dug in on the project was how he would capture his stereo imagery. Taking a recommendation from cinematographer Geoff Tully to get in touch with several Panasonic officals, he ended up with four early working models of the Panasonic AG-3DA1 in June for a three-day live performance shoot with cinematographer Greg Le Duc and stereographer David Gregory. The first title, Goldberg Variations Acoustica, was released in September; by Christmas, Waldrep hopes to have seven 3D Music Albums completed.
