Based on the increasing usage of gestures to control devices, look forward for this year’s CES to highlight everyone’s newest discovery of the need for gestural interfaces in their product. We’ve seen this pattern before and it usually gets widespread before it gets really good. Desktop publishing blossomed only to launch a serious need to protect trees. We may see much of the same as designers and engineers go from seeking to prove how they too can enable gestures on their devices as opposed to judging the intention of a user and delighting with an appropriate and intuitive result.
