Waltham becomes French 3D tech firm's new North American home

[WickedLocal]

One of the world’s leading 3D and innovation companies will now call Waltham home.

Dassault Systemes (DS), a company based in Paris, France, and the second largest software company in Europe, officially opened their North American headquarters in Waltham on Thursday, Dec. 8.

Located at 175 Wyman St., the 27-acre campus will house roughly 800 high-tech jobs, as well as a new state-of-the-art virtual reality center, where visitors can experience 3D projects, such as the company’s recent work with the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the digitization of the pyramids in Giza in Egypt.

The new building represented the state’s largest commercial real estate deal in 2010.

The campus includes 320,000 square feet of office, technology lab and data space, as well as a cafeteria and fitness center.  …

One of those services is a 3D mechanical design program, which operates under the name “SolidWorks,” runs on Windows, and was housed in offices in Concord and Lowell, both of which are now being combined and placed in the Waltham office.

Among Dassault’s clients are Boeing, Toyota, Nokia, Gap, Apple, Procter & Gamble and General Electric.

In all, Dassault has 130,000 customers in 11 industries in 31 countries. Those industries include life sciences, aerospace, automotive, construction, energy, and high-tech, among others.
