Warner Announces Six Blu-ray 3D Titles for Retail

On Nov. 16 Warner Home Video will release six 3D Blu-ray Disc titles at retail with no hardware tie-ins, including Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, the industry’s first day-and-date 3D Blu-ray release with DVD and standard Blu-ray.

Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, which took in more than $47 million at the domestic box office, will be a three-SKU release, with 3D Blu-ray, standard Blu-ray and DVD. Per 3D Blu-ray standards, all of the 3D Blu-ray releases will include 2D versions of the films.

The other films to see a 3D Blu-ray release will be Clash of the Titans (2010), The Polar Express, IMAX Deep Sea 3D, IMAX Under the Sea 3D and IMAX Space Station 3D. All six 3D titles will have an SRP of $44.95 each.

The 3D Blu-rays of IMAX Deep Sea 3D and IMAX Under the Sea 3D had previously been exclusives to owners of 3D products from Sony Electronics and LG Electronics, respectively. The 3D Blu-ray of IMAX Space Station 3D was initially an LG 3D hardware tie-in for consumers in Europe, Asia, South America and Central America.

The 3D Blu-rays of Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore and Clash of the Titans will be released as combo packs, with DVDs and digital copies included. Previously released in anaglyph 3D, The Polar Express has been upgraded to deliver a stereoscopic, 1080p 3D picture.

“This is an exciting time in the industry and we are thrilled to be a part of this evolution in home entertainment,” said Dorinda Marticorena, SVP of worldwide marketing and high-def. “As sales of Blu-ray 3D hardware increase during the holidays, we wanted to ensure that consumers have access to a diverse selection of 3D content, not attached to an exclusive bundle, which will showcase the amazing possibilities of this brilliant new format – and this is just the beginning.

“Consumers can expect to see more 3D movies and games coming to home 3D over the next few months.”

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Monster House (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment) are currently the only two titles currently available widely at retail, while Image Entertainment has announced three 3D Blu-ray releases for Nov. 2 (IMAX: Grand Canyon Adventure – River at Risk, IMAX: Wild Ocean and Dinosaurs Alive!).

The 3D Blu-ray of Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore will include a new Looney Tunes animated short called “Coyote Falls,” presented in 3D. Warner has not announced other bonus features for the release.
