Researchers at NSR have tackled the ‘how-big-how-fast” question on 3D with what it describes “a first-ever attempt at forecasting actual take-up of full-time 3D TV channels.”
Says the group, “It seems unlikely … that any pay-TV service provider will feel the need to carry more than a handful of 3D channels within their line-ups anytime within the foreseeable future.” Best guess estimate from the researchers call for around 200 full-time 3D channels to be carried globally within the next 10 years, with most of that coming from the DTH segment. By 2019, NSR sees nearly 200 3D channels offered globally via satellite.
