25th AES UK Conference: Spatial Audio in Today’s 3D World
in association with the
4th International Symposium on Ambisonics and Spherical Acoustics
University of York, UK
Sunday 25th March – Tuesday 27th March 2012
We are pleased to announce the 25th UK Conference: Spatial Audio in Today’s 3D World and 4th International Symposium on Ambisonics and Spherical Acoustics.
This is a joint event staged by the AES British Section and the Music Research Centre at the University of York. It will be held on 25th-27th March 2012 at the University of York’s Music Research Centre and Ron Cooke Hub.
This conference and symposium is devoted to reviewing the current state-of-the-art and recent advances in spatial audio and spherical acoustics, with emphasis on its application to audio and music practice. It brings together researchers, developers, musicians and practitioners working in, but not limited to, the following fields:
* General considerations on spherical acoustics theory
* Ambisonics for sound scene reproduction and virtual acoustic environments
* Spherical microphone array systems and signal processing
* Capture and analysis of radiation patterns
* Spherical acoustic holography
* Synthesis of directional and focused sound sources
* Spherical loudspeaker array systems and signal processing
* Theoretical considerations on comparative subjective and objective studies
* Standardisation, exchange, implementation and hardware issues
The Call for Papers is available here. The closing date for abstracts is Monday 12th December 2011.
A provisional programme will be published during December along with details of how to register. We are aiming for a registration fee not exceeding GBP 200, with a discount of approximately 50% for students in full-time audio-related courses (both subject to UK VAT at the prevailing rate – currently 20%).
About the venue:
The Music Research Centre is located on the campus of the University of York in York, a scenic city in the North of England which combines ancient history and modern commerce. Presentations will take place in the Arthur Sykes Rymer Auditorium (dedicated in part to Ambisonics playback), Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall and 3Sixty Immersive Demonstration Space.
By planning to arrive a day or two early, or stay on after the event, conference attendees can also enjoy the spectacular attractions offered by the city of York. The York Minster is a gothic cathedral of the grandest scale; the Jorvik Viking Centre offers an interactive look at the Vikings who settled the city, and the National Railway Museum is a must for train aficionados.
