Patrick Steinkuhl, LG’s consumer insight strategist, introduced the new smart home line of products during the LG press event.
LG extends its “smart” theme into the home appliance, smart home, and smart energy grid initiatives. LG’s “THINQ” technologies will allow consumers to use their appliances more efficiently and manage their energy use throughout their homes. The devices themselves can perform diagnostics, report problems, learn about their environment, and adapt to their owners’ preferences. Smart robo-cleaners, for example, will learn what areas of the home need to be cleaned more often. The appliances can also communicate with the energy grid so energy use in the region can be managed more efficiently. On this score, LG is participating on a number of pilot projects with energy utilities around the globe.
Tim Alessi, director, new product development, discussed the market research LG conducted while developing their new product lines.
According to LG, consumers care about: a) easy access to content, b) connectivity and the ability to move content among devices, and c) equipment and content that is easy to use. To that end, they are incorporating a number of network technologies into their new devices.
And for ease of use, LG is introducing the “Magic Motion Remote,” a remote control with only six buttons.
