Are Improved 2D to 3D Conversions Key to 3D's Future?

… Will the conversion process improve to match films shot with 3D rigs? And if so, will that be the key technology to keep 3D relevant and updated for the masses?

According to TechRadar, Sky Movies chief Ian Lewis thinks this is so. He also thinks that the upcoming conversions of Star Wars and Titanic [will establish] new standard for conversions.

“Sky Movies chief Ian Lewis has told TechRadar that, despite Avatar already bringing 3D’s defining moment, it will be 2D to 3D conversions that lift the technology to mass market appeal,” TechRadar reports.
