Interactive TV enterprise, Dreamer, with headquarters in Korea and Burbank, is demonstrating their BIDDLE technology which essentially transforms a BD player into an HD set-top box with interactive apps that allow content providers to dynamically update the content at any time.
Dreamer announced today that its BIDDLE platform will be used by Technicolor to offer digital content delivery services for Blu-ray, including online and disc-based direct-to-TV solutions that allow movie studios, broadcasters, record labels and other content distributors to utilize BD-Live as a fully-controllable direct marketing and e-commerce tool.
The BIDDLE technology enables a complementary delivery mechanism for content distributors. “It allows them to utilize their deep libraries of content to generate additional revenue streams by sending music, games, exclusive access events, advertising, e-commerce, social networking and more to consumers’ TVs.”
The BIDDLE platform can either be deployed by using a Blu-ray disc that contains the BIDDLE code (when inserted into a BD-Live player it will automatically connect to online content channels), or by embedding the BIDDLE technology directly into a Blu-ray player so that unlimited online content services will be available directly from the player. Additionally, the technology allows content providers to regularly add new apps and services that consumers can access via the same disc, even after it has been released (no PC or set-top box is required).
