Roku Bows 3D Video

Roku, which helped launch Netflix’s streaming business in 2008, has bowed its first 3D content channel via third-party video-on-demand service WealthTV.

The launch marks the first deployment of broadcast 3D programming delivered to Roku media players.

WealthTV’s 3D content is available for $2.99 per month. WealthTV first added 3D content in July 2010.

The premier lifestyle and entertainment network’s current 3D content includes Wonders of the World: Statue of Liberty, The Enchanted Hill: Inside Hearst Castle and Wheel on Wheels: The Classic Benz.

“3D set owners can now turn to Roku as a source for family friendly and highly entertaining 3D content,” said Anthony Wood, founder and CEO of Roku. “With Wealth TV’s inaugural launch of 3D programming on Roku, we’re pleased to be a recognized source for consumers looking for a new dimension in television viewing.”

Roku players, starting from $59.99, are available at Amazon, Fry’s Electronics and Roku.com.
