Sensio Unveils Autodetect and S2D Switch

Sensio Technologies has introduced two new features aimed at improving the 3D user experience in consumer electronics.

These are the Sensio S2D Switch, a feature that enables a spatially-compressed stereoscopic (3D) video stream to be displayed in 2D (left- or right-eye); and Sensio Autodetect, a feature designed to enhance the usability of devices for viewing 3D video by automatically detecting the input format, whether 2D, side-by-side, Sensio Hi-Fi 3D or top-and-bottom, and displaying images in the corresponding output format.

“You have to think of the little things to make the user experience more comfortable and more enjoyable,” said Sensio’s EVP and CMO Richard LaBerge, speaking of the company’s strategy.

Autodetect is designed for integration into devices such as set-top boxes, 3DTVs and Blu-ray players, as well as professional video-processing equipment. “With Sensio Autodetect incorporated into 3D display systems, neither 3D content providers nor consumers will face issues associated with configuration of input and output formats,” said Nicholas Routhier, Sensio president and CEO.

The Sensio S2D Switch allows content to be viewed in either 3D or in 2D, whether the consumer invests in a 3D movie via VOD, or records content from a subscribed 3D channel on a DVR. “With this offering, we add value to our partners’ 3D products and eliminate a potential barrier to consumer investment in 3D technologies,” Routhier suggested.
