THQ Hoping Sony ‘Invigorates’ PSP Business, Sees 3DS as ‘Amazing’

The PSP2, although not announced by Sony, certainly exists. We’ve made our thoughts known onwhat we think Sony should do with the PSP business and we also polled leading analysts. Now, in a new interview with THQ Core Games boss Danny Bilson, we asked the executive about Sony’s position in the portable space and what he thought of Nintendo’s upcoming 3DS.

Bilson stressed that he’s a big believer in Nintendo’s 3D handheld, and THQ has at least three games planned, but he’d also like to see Sony step up its game. “I hope that they invigorate their handheld platform because it will just give us another place to deliver our games,” Bilson said of Sony and the PSP2. “They do have a lot of great engineers and great designers. When they do announce it, I hope that it’s something that works for everybody, but I really can’t comment on it because they haven’t.”

As for Nintendo’s 3DS, Bilson continues to be thoroughly impressed with the hardware, just as everyone else has been. “I think it’s fantastic hardware. Like I said, we’ve greenlit three, maybe four games; that’s a lot. We are supporting it; we’re absolutely supporting it. I think it’s pretty exciting hardware and has a fresh look to it, obviously. You’ve seen it. The 3DS is really kind of amazing. We are supporting it, for sure. We’re not doing a ‘sit back and wait’ thing. We’re actually betting with Nintendo that it’s going to be successful by developing three or four titles for it,” he said.
